Volunteer Pass & Reward Program
The Management Committee is very committed to providing our players with a unique opportunity to develop as an individual, be part of a supportive team environment, learn how to win and lose (not so much we hope) and most importantly, learn those valued life skills that come with belonging to a team and well run sporting club. To ensure our players can reach their potential as players and young people, we will need your support. Our club recognises that the number and quality of our volunteer workforce directly affects the standard of our programs and services we provide.
In 2016/17 our club will need 28 critical volunteers to deliver our programs and services, and other one-off volunteers to help with facility maintenance and field preparation. We want to spread that responsibility and ensure when somebody does volunteers for us it is a positive, rewarding experience therefore if you volunteer in our club it will not be a life sentence as our new constitution forbids this practice. So with our new rules in play we are 100% committed to valuing our most valued resource: “Our Volunteer Workforce”, because without them the cost of our sport would be prohibitive and the number of players able to participate would be significantly reduced.
In order to run an effective and efficient club, Indians has to ensure that many varied tasks are covered. These tasks include, but are not limited to, the management and operation of:
- Grounds Maintenance
- Member Registration
- Team Management
- Grant and Sponsorship Submissions
A dedicated band of volunteers has managed these tasks for many years, however, with the reality of modern day life reducing people’s available time, Indians have implemented the program to encourage more people to volunteer and spread the workload.
The main objectives of the Program include:
Recognising and rewarding valued volunteers: Indians Baseball Club owes their success over the years to the support of our volunteer base. For those who don’t want to, or cannot volunteer, then you can do this guilt free by purchasing the volunteer pass. If you volunteer you will be refunded the $100 volunteer pass and at the same time receive even further reductions in your club fee relative to the time committed. For those members who want to reduce their fees but do not get their preferred volunteer position, we have provided other opportunities for members to reduce their fees: if you miss out on one of the volunteer positions above but still want to remove or reduce the $100 Volunteer Pass, there are several volunteer tasks that pay per game that you may wish to take on.
The Position Reward dollars are relative to the time committed to the club. They are paid from the volunteer pass system and no additional funds from the club are paid into the scheme. The Position Reward dollars in the 2016-17 Indians Baseball Club Fees and Volunteer information pack are an indication based on an estimate of 65 volunteer pass paying members (U8 & U10 do not contribute). Should the club’s membership numbers increase, the reward dollars will also increase. These figures will be finalised after sign on.
Removing the fear of volunteering: We are fully committed to providing our volunteers with the information and training they need to enjoy the experience, but most importantly we value your time and we will not waste it. So be assured if you commit to volunteering in our club it will not be ‘for life’ and it will be truly appreciated.
applying for a volunteer position
- Management Committee positions: Applications will be accepted prior to the AGM in accordance with the Constitution. Management Committee positions are elected at the AGM.
- Pre-Season Volunteers: Applications will be called for in July of each year and will be reviewed and positions appointed by the Management Committee before the season commences or directly preceding the AGM.
- In-season Volunteers: Applications will be called for during season sign-on.
When will the volunteer pass be refunded and volunteer rewards be paid?
Members are asked to provide their bank details on their volunteer position application form so that refunds and rewards payments can be made by direct deposit. All refunds and rewards payments will be made in December each year. Those who take on volunteer tasks that are paid per game will receive their total dollars off fees in two instalments, firstly in December and again at the end of the season.
